The new VRX from Votec: a gravel bike with road bike genes and Shimano’s gravel-specific GRX groupset

The latest version of a gravel pioneer, with an aluminium frame and redesigned carbon fork – available from the 12th of November

Stuttgart, 12th November 2021 – The Stuttgart-based bike manufacturer Votec presents the revised VRX. This new edition of the VRX – which first appeared in 2016 – features racy geometry, an aluminium frame, carbon fork and Shimano GRX groupset. Votec have designed and specced the bike to appeal to beginners and enthusiastic riders who want to hit the dirt roads in search of fun.

A gravel bike with road bike genes
Votec launched the all-road VRC in 2020 to great critical acclaim and excellent test results. The VRX plays to its strengths – a fast bike for those who want to spend their time on gravel roads.

Stephan Geiß, Head of Brand Management and the man in charge of Votec, explains that the gravel category has grown exponentially since 2016 and now has its own sub-categories, from gravel touring bikes and bikepacking rigs through to full-carbon gravel race machines: “Since we released the VRX in 2016, we’ve focused on the racier side of the gravel genre. We built the VRX to fly down trails, through fields and everything in between.”

“With its tough aluminium frame, lightweight, stiff carbon fork, and sporty riding position, the VRX combines fun and speed. This is exactly the kind of bike our customers have been asking for” explains David Meyer, product manager at Votec.

Light, tough, and kitted out with GRX components
Rafael Hoffleit, who designed the Votec VRC frame, also designed the VRX’s wider new fork, thus bridging the gap between the two models. The classic, clean lines of the VRC were also adopted for the VRX. This wider fork has several advantages, including increased stiffness and more tyre clearance than on the 2016 VRX. For Votec, tyres between 35-42 mm represent the sweet spot: the perfect compromise between weight, grip and cushioning.

In addition to the aluminium frame with its internal cable routing and carbon fork, the Votec VRX rolls on WTB Riddler tyres and a high-quality Easton EA70 AX wheelset. The rims have a 24-mm inner width which makes them perfect for tubeless tyres. Shimano’s GRX groupset, hugely popular among gravel fans, provides effortless, completely reliable shifting and braking.

The new VRX is available in five sizes: S, M, L, XL and XXL, and will fit people between 156 and 198 centimetres tall. It comes in Warwickshire Green, Brazilian Yellow or stealthy Matte Black and is priced at €1999.

“The VRX offers a great package with its aluminium frame, carbon fork and high-quality components at a fair price. With this bike, recreational riders and ambitious athletes can truly push themselves, especially those who enjoy riding rougher terrain. The main thing is to get off the beaten path and enjoy the gravel as often as possible,” says product manager David Meyer.
